1 Strategy + 3 Primary ObjectivesMarch 2, 2010
Every 2-3 months I review my strategy and the top 3 Primary Objectives. Do you? This is your compass – it tells you what is a priority and what is not.
Your strategy is a statement of what you intend to do to achieve the most important aspect of business growth in the immediate future. E.g., I will create a pipeline of projects to stem the ebb and flow of work, creating a constant source of income that can buoy my best work.
Each of your primary objectives must contribute to your strategy. They should be measurable. E.g., I will obtain two long-term consulting engagements with $50+million organizations to improve their performance in substantive ways. Then, following your objectives, lay out your tactics for each. A tactic is a specific action you will take intended to bring you closer to your result.
Where are you going? What are you doing? How will you get there? Either you can answer these questions or you can’t. If you can’t you better get busy. Your compass is not in good repair. Don’t want to get lost at sea. Better to be on track to the next destination where treasures await!
