Great Tool for Getting Inside Your Clients’ Mind

February 12, 2010

Too many consultants have trouble getting outside their own head. It is challenging to see things from your clients’ point-of-view. Here’s a cool tool to help you think like someone who is looking for you: Google’s keyword tool.

Come up with a phrase that you believe someone who is looking for you would use to find you. Type it in where it says, “Enter one keyword or phrase per line.” Then press the button that says, “Get keyword ideas.”

Take notice of the Local Search Volume last month. Check out the Global Monthly Search Volume. Read the keywords related to your term. There is a lot to be learned here.

Try other combinations. See what you can come up with that is a good fit to a service you are offering.  If your terms are getting real low scores, ask yourself, “Am I using the right phrases to reach people? Am I offering something that people are looking for?”  Dig around by entering new terms until you begin to find words that are a tighter match with better responses.
