Why non-Fans Should Watch the Super Bowl

January 27, 2010

It’s America’s biggest bash. About 130 million people will be watching the game. Why should you? If you don’t like football, here are three good reasons:

  1. If you want to learn more about what brings people together in the USA than a political race, study the behavior around this event like an anthropologist. More food is consumed on Super Bowl Sunday than any other American holiday except Thanksgiving.
  2. Because more eyeballs will be on that screen than any other event, advertisers do their level best to create a 30-second experience that drives behavior. Superbowl ads are the result of some of the most highly paid creative minds of our day.
  3. The athletes are America’s best. They give their whole lives to training for this event, using state-of-the art tools and processes. The game will showcase the beauty of the male human body.

As an entrepreneur, there are important lessons and experiences to be gleaned from all three of these points. The Superbowl is an event not to miss, even if you are not a football fan.
